How to add or update your publication’s social links
In a typical beehiiv post, social links can appear in 3 locations:
- Top Right: Social sharing links for readers to share your post.
- Top Left: Additional sharing options via the social posts icon.
- Bottom (Footer): Links to your own social media accounts.
Each of these serves a distinct purpose.
Social sharing and social media links explained
1. Social sharing links are at the top right
At the top right of the web version of your published posts, you’ll find social sharing links. These allow readers to share your newsletter on:
- X (Twitter)
- Threads
Social sharing links are automatically included for every web post and cannot be disabled.
2. Additional sharing options at the top left
Readers can access more sharing options by clicking the social posts icon on the top left side of your post. This allows them to share your content via:
- X (Twitter)
- WhatsApp
3. Your social media links are at the bottom in the footer
At the bottom of your post, the footer contains icons that link to your social media accounts, if added. These links help readers connect with you and explore more about your publication.
You can add social links for:
- X (Twitter)
- YouTube
- TikTok
- Threads
- Discord
- Bluesky
To add or update these links, go to Website Builder > Settings tab > Social Links. Once added, you can further customize their appearance in the Newsletter Builder (see steps below).
How to add or remove social sharing links from the top of a post
Social sharing links are in the email header of your newsletter, enabling readers to share the entire post. Sharing specific sections or portions of a post is not currently supported.
By default, this feature is enabled in the Email page settings of your post. If you prefer to disable social sharing icons for your email post, follow these steps:
- Open an existing post you’d like to edit, or click Start writing from the left panel dashboard to create a new one.
- The Post Builder will open on the Compose page. Navigate to the Email page.
- Go to the Email header buttons section and toggle Socials off.
Tech Note: While you can remove social sharing icons from the top of your email, they will still appear at the top of your web post. Additionally, their colors cannot be adjusted at this time.
How to add or remove social media links from the email footer
The social media links in the footer of your website and newsletter are based on the publication settings configured in the Website Builder.
To add or remove social media links:
- From the left panel in your account, go to Design > Website Builder.
- The Website Builder will open on the Styles tab by default. Switch to the Settings tab, then click Social Links.
Note: The Settings tab will initially open on Pixels, where you can input tracking pixels. These are not related to social links, so be sure to select Social Links from the options below Pixels.
-
The Social Links options will appear on the right panel. You can add or remove URLs for these platforms: Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, Discord, and Bluesky.
Changes will be saved automatically. Any social links that are removed or left empty will not appear in the footer of your emailed newsletter.
Reminder: Be sure to include https:// when adding social media links.
How to customize the look of your footer social links for your publication
The social media links in your newsletter footer are controlled by your publication settings, and their appearance can be customized in the Newsletter Builder. You can adjust both the Background color and icon color of these links to match your design.
- From the left hand panel in your account, go to Design > Newsletter Builder.
- The Newsletter Builder will open on the Background tab, click the arrow to close Background.
- Scroll down and click the arrow next to Email Footer to open it. Then, scroll down to locate Social Links.
- Here, you can adjust the Background color to a color of your choosing, and adjust the Icon color between Light and Dark.
- When done making changes to your social link design, click Save Changes in the bottom right corner to apply your updates.
- Once saved, you’ll receive a quick Theme Published message at the top of your screen.
