How to create, assign, or remove content tags for posts

Tagging your post content helps improve organization and enhances the experience for your audience. By using content tags, you make it easier for subscribers to discover more of the content they care about, increasing engagement. Keep in mind that content tags are specific to posts and are different from subscriber tags, which are used to manage your audience.

In this guide, we will walk you through the complete process of managing content tags for your posts. We'll start with creating tags, and then cover the steps to assign these tags to your posts, making your content more accessible and organized for your audience. Finally, we’ll explain how to assign or remove tags from already published posts, giving you the flexibility to update and refine your content organization as needed.

How to create tags to organize your post content

  1. In Posts, click on Manage content tags

  1. In Content Tags, click on Create Content Tag.

  1. A new content tag form will open. Give the content tag a Name and Slug (required), and a Description or Image (optional), then click Save

Tech Note: Visitors to your site will be able to access your individual tag page /t/yourslughere, once the page is live.

The (optional) image can be featured in a Tag block on your website, which will dynamically display your tag information. To learn more about using Tag blocks, check out our guide to using content tags on your website

  1. After you add it, you'll return to the Content Tags dashboard with your new tag listed. To edit or delete a tag, click the 3 dots menu next to its name and select Edit or Delete.

  2. Once your posts are tagged, you can use those tags throughout your site in a variety of ways, for Tag pages, Tag blocks, and more.

How to assign content tags to a post

  1. Open a new post draft or select to edit one of your saved posts or templates.

  2. The Post Builder will open on the Compose page. Above the post title, click on Add content Tags to select from the content tags in your account.

  3. To add a new content tag, click on Create content tag. A popup will appear for you to add a Name (required) and a Description (optional) for your tag. Once done, click Save Content Tag.

  4. Once you've added a new content tag, you'll need to select it from the available options. To do this, click on Add content tags above the post title, then choose your newly created tag. A checkmark will appear, confirming the tag has been successfully added to your post.

  5. You can also click on Manage content tags, which will take you back to your Content Tags dashboard where you can edit, delete, or create new content tags.

How to assign or remove content tags from a published post

  1. From the left panel, click on Posts, then navigate to one of your published posts to modify the content tags. Click the 3 dots menu for the post and select Edit post.

  2. The Post Builder will open on the Compose page. Above the post title, click on Add content tags to select from the content tags in your account. From here, you can add existing tags or delete them, the same as you would if you had not published the post. Changes will be saved automatically.

  3. After you’ve made your edits, you’ll see the content tag(s) reflected on the post. Click Exit in the top left corner to leave the Post Builder.
