Options on the Email page of the post flow
The Email page of the post flow allows you to customize your email sending details, with full control over your A/B testing (when applicable), email header button options, and custom redirect options for your subscribers to read online.
The ‘Email’ tab or page is one part of the overall post creation process, organized into 5 tabs (Compose, Audience, Email, Web, Review) at the top of the Post Builder. The post flow is designed to guide you step-by-step through crafting and publishing a post, using the ‘Next’ button to move between pages. If you prefer to navigate out of order, you can use the 5 tabs to jump directly to any stage of the process.
How to adjust the settings found on the Email page of the post flow
- From your beehiiv account, create a new post draft or select to edit one of your saved posts.
- The Post Builder will open on the Compose page where you can create your post as usual or review your content. Once you’re satisfied with everything, click Next to proceed.
Alternatively, you can click the Email tab and jump down to Step 4.
- You’ll be taken to the Audience page, where you can select the audience you want to send to for both Email and Web. When you’ve completed selecting your audience preferences, click Next to proceed to the Email options.
Alternatively, you can click the Email tab and jump down to Step 4.
Email page: Sending details
- Once on the Email page, you can add or adjust your Sending details, including your Subject line and Preview text.
By default, the subject line will auto-populate with the title of your post, and the preview text will be the same as the post subtitle (when applicable). You can customize both fields to anything you wish.
If you’d like assistance creating a subject line or preview text, use these options:
- Refresh icon on the left: Click the refresh icon to resync your subject line or preview text with your post title or subtitle.
- AI icon on the right: Click the AI icon to auto-generate a subject line or preview text based on your post content.
A/B test (paid plans)
- Users on our paid plans can enable an A/B test with a simple toggle. Use the AI icon to auto-generate subject line options or write your own. Click the refresh icon to resync your subject line with your post title.
For a step-by-step guide, check out our article on creating and using A/B tests.
Email header buttons
- Moving down the page, you can customize your Email headers by adding buttons for social sharing, likes, and comments. Simply toggle on Socials and/or Likes & Comments to include these options in your newsletters.
Socials: Enabling the Socials option adds social sharing links at the top of your emails, allowing subscribers to share your post on their social media pages. These links differ from your social media profile links, which appear in your email footer.
Note: While you can remove social sharing icons from the top of your emails using the Socials toggle, they will still appear at the top of your web post. Their colors cannot be customized at this time. For more details, check out our guide on using social links on beehiiv.
Likes & Comments: Enabling the Likes & Comments option adds buttons for readers to like and comment on your post. The comments icon will only appear if comments are enabled for both your publication and the specific post.
Advanced Settings
- At the bottom of the Email page, click the arrow to expand Advanced settings.
By default, the Read Online link directs readers to the web version of your post. If you prefer to redirect them elsewhere, enable the Custom Read Online URL toggle and enter your desired URL in the field that appears.
