Subscriber status types in beehiiv
In your beehiiv account, each one of your subscribers has a dashboard where you can see both a quick overview and detailed data on your subscribers.
Within the subscriber’s profile details panel that displays on the left side of the dashboard, you’ll find the subscriber’s status underneath the map and above their email address.
There are 4 subscriber status types in beehiiv, each indicating a different stage in the subscriber's engagement with your publication:
-
Active: These subscribers are currently receiving your emails and are fully engaged with your content. They have confirmed their subscription and are not marked as unsubscribed or inactive.
-
Inactive: These subscribers were once active but are no longer active and may have opted out of receiving email communications from you. They may have unsubscribed from your publication, or you may have created a re-engagement automation that updates their status to inactive. Additionally, users that you manually unsubscribe will be shown as Inactive.
-
Pending: Subscribers with this status have started the subscription process but haven't yet confirmed their email address. They will need to click the link to confirm their account within the email that is sent. They won't receive any emails (including posts dedicated to a segment or welcome email/sequences) until they complete this confirmation.
Tech Note: Subscribers can have a pending status if your publication uses double opt-in. They will also enter this status if they sign up through a referral or a Boost. It’s also normal for some subscribers to remain in the pending status indefinitely, as not everyone will complete the confirmation process. We recommend enabling the Smart Nudge feature to send a follow up email 48 hours later to those subscribers who do not immediately confirm their account. -
Needs approval: These subscribers have requested to join your publication but require manual approval before they can start receiving emails. This only applies to publications that have activated the ‘Require Subscriber Approval’ option in their settings which means the account holder needs to approve them before they will be allowed into the publication.
