How to use your Gmail profile pic to send your beehiiv publications
If you use Google Workspace (commonly known as Gmail), you can display your Google Workspace profile picture in the emails you send through beehiiv to subscribers with Gmail addresses. This feature helps your emails stand out in crowded inboxes while ensuring a consistent brand identity for your Gmail audience.
By default, beehiiv uses the profile picture you set in your beehiiv account for your author and account profiles. This will not be impacted by your Gmail profile picture. Instead, your Gmail profile picture will appear next to your emails in your Gmail subscribers' inboxes, and next to your subject line when your Gmail subscribers open their emails.
What you’ll need
To enable this option, you will need to have the following:
- Admin access to the Google Workspace account associated with your email.
- A custom domain set up for your beehiiv publication, with a verified Email Domain that matches your Google Workspace account.
- Access to the specific email account you plan to connect to beehiiv.
How to set up your Gmail profile pic for beehiiv sends
- Log in to your Google Workspace Admin Console and navigate to the Manage Domains section.
- You’ll be taken to a page with a list of the domains that are associated with your Workspace account. Click Add a domain.
- Enter the custom domain name associated with your beehiiv publication, and select the Secondary domain option. Then, click ADD DOMAIN & START VERIFICATION to proceed.
- Return to your Workspace Admin Console and create an alternate email address (email alias) for the user whose profile picture you want to appear. Click Create an alternate email address (email alias).
- Enter the appropriate user’s email address, then click PROCEED.
- Return to your Google Workspace Admin Console and navigate to Directory > Directory settings > Profile editing. Ensure the Profile picture setting is enabled by checking the box next to it.
- Next, you’ll need to log into the Google account for the user that is linked as your alternate email in beehiiv. Click on the profile picture in the top-right corner, then click the pencil icon to edit it.
- Check the visibility setting above your profile picture. If it says Visible to anyone, no further action is needed. If it says Visible to your organization and the people you interact with, update it to Anyone and click Save.
