Options on the Web page of the post flow

The Web page in the post creation flow allows you to adjust all of the settings for the web version of your post. From editing the URL slug to creating an audio version of your newsletter, you have full control to customize your readers' experience.

The ‘Web’ tab or page is one part of the overall post creation process, organized into 5 tabs (Compose, Audience, Email, Web, Review) at the top of the Post Builder. The post flow is designed to guide you step-by-step through crafting and publishing a post, using the ‘Next’ button to move between pages. If you prefer to navigate out of order, you can use the 5 tabs to jump directly to any stage of the process.

Quick tips to get you started

  • Thumbnail options for your post can be found on both the Compose and Web pages. You can upload a thumbnail in either, or your default publication thumbnail will be used if none is selected.
  • The SEO settings oulined below are for the individual post. More general SEO settings for the publication can be found in the Website Builder.
  • We’ve created a guide and FAQ for Audio Newsletters to help you make the most of this feature for your readers.
  • Once logged into your account, you can quickly start creating a new post by typing or pasting beehiiv.new into your browser. If you manage multiple publications, the new draft will open in whichever publication you currently have selected.
  • Additional articles are linked throughout the following steps for further guidance.

How to adjust the settings found on the Web page of the post flow

  1. From your beehiiv account, create a new post draft or select to edit one of your saved posts.

  2. The Post Builder will open on the Compose page where you can create your post as usual or review your content. Once you’re satisfied with everything, click Next to proceed.

Alternatively, you can click the Web tab and jump down to Step 5.

  3. You’ll be taken to the Audience page, where you can select the audience you want to send to for both Email and Web. When you’ve completed selecting your audience preferences, click Next to proceed.

Alternatively, you can click the Web tab and jump down to Step 5.

  4. You’ll be taken to the Email page, which gives you control over your post’s sending details. This where you can customize the subject line with an A/B test, add preview text, and toggle your social sharing links on or off for your posts.

After your sending details are to your liking, click Next to proceed to the web settings>

Reminder: Social sharing links and social media links serve different purposes.
    • Social media links (found in your email footer) help readers connect with you and explore your brand or company.
    • Social sharing links (automatically included on every web post) let readers share your content on their social sites and cannot be disabled.

While you can remove social sharing icons from the top of your emails using the Socials toggle, they will still appear at the top of your web post. Their colors cannot be customized at this time. For more details, check out our guide on using social media links on beehiiv.

Post URL (slug) settings

  1. The Web page will open and you’ll see the option to adjust your Post URL (slug) at the top. To automatically sync the URL with your post title, simply click the Refresh icon.

Tech Note: When you customize your Post URL, words must be separated by hyphens to follow standard URL formatting rules. If you type spaces between words in this field, they will automatically be converted to hyphens when you leave the text box.

Thumbnail Review

  1. On the Web page, you can review or select your post thumbnail (if not already chosen on the Compose page). Hover over the image to replace it, or click the trashcan icon to delete it. This image will be used as the thumbnail in your feed and for SEO purposes.

Pro Tip: The recommended thumbnail size is 1200px by 630px.

You can also toggle the option to Show thumbnail on top in web to feature it on your web post.

Note: The Show thumbnail on top in web toggle will only appear when you have added a thumbnail to your post.

Advanced email capture

  1. Below the thumbnail settings, you'll find the Advanced email capture options, which offer 3 choices in a dropdown: Gated, Popup, or None.

Gated: Selecting Gated means only active subscribers can access the full web post. Logged in subscribers can view the content without any interruptions, while new visitors will be prompted to subscribe before accessing the post.

Popup: Selecting Popup means a subscription option will appear within your post, preventing readers from reading more while encouraging them to subscribe to your newsletter.

Comments on your post

  1. In the Comments section, you’ll have the option to manage comments for your post.

Click on the down arrow next to All subscribers and choose between it and Paid subscribers only, Disabled: Hide comments section, or Locked: Show comments section, but disable new comments.

Tech Note: In order for comments to be enabled for your post, they must first be enabled for your publication in your website settings. Additionally, if you toggled on Likes and Comments on the Email page of the post flow, the comment icon will only be visible if comments are enabled for both the publication and the post.

Audio newsletter options

  1. Under Audio newsletter, you can enable the option to create an audio version of your newsletter by toggling it on. You can also choose the voice for the audio by selecting from the dropdown menu.

Post to Stocktwits (optional)

  1. Workspaces with the Stocktwits integration enabled have the option to Post to Stocktwits. Toggling this on allows you to share your post, include cashtags from your content, add a custom message, and choose a sentiment tag: Bullish (optimistic, expecting prices to rise) or Bearish (pessimistic, expecting prices to fall).

SEO Settings

  1. Customize how your post appears in search results and on social media with the SEO settings. Here, you can edit the meta title and description for better visibility. A preview below each field shows how your post will appear in search results and social media feeds.

If you’d like assistance generating meta content, use these options:
  • Refresh icon: Click the Refresh icon to sync the meta title with your post title or the description with your subtitle.
  • AI icon: Click the AI icon to auto-generate an SEO-friendly meta title or description based on your content.
Note: Using the AI option will also populate the Open Graph (Facebook and LinkedIn) and X (formerly Twitter) meta fields, which you can edit as needed in the next step. Additionally, there is a daily limit of 20 AI generations here, but they do not count against any existing AI credits you may have.
Pro Tip: For SEO best practices, keep meta titles within 60 characters (max 200) and meta descriptions under 145 characters (max 500). There is a character counter next to each SEO field to help you keep track.

  1. Additionally in the SEO settings, you can customize how your post appears on Open Graph (Facebook and LinkedIn) and X. Click the Refresh icon to sync with your post title and subtitle.

A preview will be displayed under each option, showing how your post will appear on each social media platform.

Post Visibility

  1. In the Post Visibility section, you can choose to Hide the post from feed by toggling the option on or off. This will prevent the post from appearing on your publication’s website.

Additionally, you can toggle the option to Feature the post on your homepage. You can feature up to 6 posts, and the current number of featured posts will be displayed.

  1. To view your featured posts, click Manage featured posts.

A Featured Posts popup will display the titles of the posts currently featured on your publication site (when enabled). You can remove a post by clicking the X or reorder them by clicking and dragging. Once you're done, click Confirm to save changes to your featured posts.

Advanced Settings

  1. In Advanced Settings, you can set a Custom display date by clicking the calendar icon and selecting a new date, it will then show in parentheses above the field.

Tech Note: The publish date is shown by default, but you can override it for display purposes without changing the actual publish time.
