Triggers and actions: Using True/False Branch nodes
The True/False Branch node allows you to split subscribers into two distinct paths — Yes or No — based on whether they meet specific conditions you define. This gives you more flexibility to personalize automations and tailor subscriber journeys based on attributes like engagement, custom field values, tags, or other behaviors.
Use Branch nodes to segment logic inside a workflow without needing to build separate automations. For example, you can send highly engaged subscribers down a shorter journey or tag disengaged subscribers for re-engagement campaigns.
How to add a True/False Branch node to an automation
- From your account dashboard, go to Audience > Automations, then either create a new automation or open an existing workflow.
- On the workflow canvas, locate the Actions panel on the left. If it's collapsed, click the arrow icon to expand it. Select True/False Branch from the action options, then drag and place it beneath a trigger or another step in the workflow.
Alternatively, you can also click on any + icon in the workflow and select True/False Branch from the dropdown menu.
- After placing it on the canvas, click the Configure step icon in the top-right corner of the True/False Branch node.
- In the left panel that opens, click Add Conditions to set up the logic that determines whether a subscriber goes down the Yes or No path.
- Define the condition(s) based on your workflow needs. Subscribers who match the condition(s) will continue down the Yes branch. Subscribers who do not match will be routed down the No branch. To include multiple criteria, click + Condition.
When finished, click Back to return to the main settings panel.
- Review your conditions in the panel. To update or adjust, click Edit Conditions. Once ready, click Save in the bottom-right corner of the panel. Or click the Delete icon if you want to remove the node.
Pro Tip: You can include multiple True/False Branch nodes in a single automation, and each branch can have multiple conditions. - Continue building the subscriber journey for each path by placing in additional actions or delays below each branch.
When the entire workflow is built and ready:
- Open each node by clicking the Configure step icon.
- Toggle on Activate in the left settings panel.
- Click Confirm on the pop-up window.
- After confirming each node, click Save in the bottom-right corner of the settings panel to apply the change.
- Once each step is activated, the node will appear in color on the canvas. The full automation will be live once the initial trigger is activated, and you’ll see a green Running status at the top of the canvas.
