How to embed the Boost Recommendations widget

Available on paid beehiiv plans. Click here to upgrade your account.

The Boost Recommendations widget is a powerful tool that offers a seamless way to promote other newsletters and earn revenue from Boosts via third-party websites.

You can use the widget to capture new subscribers from any online source. When they go through the instant signup process, they’ll be offered the opportunity to subscribe to the additional newsletters that you would earn revenue from boosting or recommending subscribers.

You can embed the Boost Recommendations widget on any external site, such as those using WordPress, Wix, or Webflow, to drive traffic and effectively monetize visitors.

How to embed the Boost Recommendations widget

From the left hand panel in your account, go to Settings > Publication then move to the tabs on the right and select Widgets.

Choose the type of trigger you would like to use for the widget to pop up and then follow the directions below for that option. The trigger represents the action that causes the widget to appear on an external site.

Using the 'On page load' trigger

Selecting On page load triggers the widget to pop up when a user lands on a specified URL. If you have more than one page that you’d like this widget to appear on, you can add multiple URLs by clicking on the +Add URL button. Then you'll need to grab the script it produces and embed it on those webpages.

Simply copy and paste the provided script into the <head> tag of the intended site page(s). (Do not copy and paste the examples in the article.)

Note: The exact steps to embed a code snippet will vary by web builder.

Here's a quick demo of the pageload trigger:

Using the 'Email Submission via Subscribe Form' trigger

Selecting Email Submission via Subscribe From triggers the widget to pop up when someone submits a beehiiv subscribe form that has been embedded on an external site.

Note: Do not reuse the examples in the images.

After selecting the subscribe form trigger, you’ll be prompted to remove the redirect from your subscribe forms if you have one in place.

(Optional) To do so, hop over to the Subscribe Forms tab, that you’ll find to the left of the Widgets tab in your account. Click the Edit option of your subscribe form.

(Optional) Your subscribe form will appear on the right, scroll down to the After Submission section and remove anything in the redirect to an external page field, then click to Save it.

(Optional) After removing any redirects, go back to the Widgets tab.

Be sure the Email Submission via Subscribe Form trigger is selected and then copy and paste the provided script into the <head> tag of the intended external site page. (Do not copy and paste the examples in this article.)

Using the 'Manual' trigger

A Manual widget will appear wherever you place it on a specific page of an external site. This trigger is best for users who are utilizing a custom email form on their website and want complete control over when to trigger the popup widget. There are 2 scripts provided for this trigger.

Note: Do not reuse the examples in the images.

Copy and paste the first script into the head or body tag of the intended site. Then copy and paste the second script to run after the webpage loads.

Here's a quick demo of the manual trigger:

Choose the Redirect location

After setting up the trigger type for the widget, you’ll need to configure your desired redirect action, which is what will happen after someone interacts with the widget. Choose from Close Widget or Redirect.

Close Widget: This option will close the widget after a user interacts with it.

Redirect: To redirect the user, input the URL that they should be taken to after they interact with the widget.

After making your selections, review them all and click on Save Widget Settings.

Finally, be sure to test the widget by visiting the site page or external signup flow to ensure that the widget pops up correctly.
