Partner Program FAQ
- All customers you refer to the Partner Program enter a 30-day trial period.
- Should they upgrade to a paid plan before or after their trail period, there's a mandatory 30-day provisioning window to prevent cancellations, fraud and or chargebacks. During this time, referrals will appear as "Pending" in your partner dashboard.
- After this provisioning window, their status will change from “Pending” to “Due”.
- Once paid to you via PayPal, their status will change from “Due” to “Paid”.
- Running search engine ads, especially on branded terms or domain names, is strictly prohibited. Doing so may result in permanent account suspension.
- Please refrain from directing search ads directly to your partner link to maintain compliance with our policies.
- You're permitted to run ads on platforms like Meta (formerly Facebook), LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), or other social media channels.
- Utilizing social ads is a great way to promote your partner link and reach a broader audience while staying within our guidelines.
- Visitors are the unique traffic you create, as in when someone clicks a valid partner link and lands on our site.
- Leads represent the amount of visitors/traffic that actually sign up for a beehiiv account.
- Conversions show the amount of those leads that end up converting and paying for any beehiiv plan after their 30-day trial.
- Pending reflects all of your pending commissions that are within our 30-day provisioning window.
- Due reflects all of your pending commissions that are now eligible to be paid out during our next payout cycle, on the 15th of each month.
- Paid reflects all of your paid commissions to date that you have earned as a beehiiv partner.
How do payouts work for the Partner Program?
Payouts are processed on the 15th of each month, covering commissionable earnings from the previous month. Should the 15th fall on a US holiday, payouts will be postponed to the next business day.
If your PayPal account email differs from your beehiiv account email, you can update it by following the steps outlined in this article.
Please note that there's a delay between when someone signs up and when you receive your commission.
Trial period and provisioning window:
Here is an example scenario, suppose you referred a user to the Scale plan on June 1st. After their 30-day trial, they ended up upgrading to the Max plan on July 1st. Your commission would now be due on August 1st.
This amount will be paid out to you via PayPal on August 15th, which marks the next payout period.
This initial delay applies only to your first payout. Subsequently, you'll receive monthly payments as long as your referral remains a beehiiv customer for up to 12 months.
All payouts are subject to beehiiv’s Terms of Use and the Partner Program Terms of Service.
What should I do if my PayPal payout fails?
If your PayPal payout fails during our payout process, you may need to update your PayPal email address, or look into any pending issues that you may have with your PayPal account.
Our payout team will typically reach out to you directly to notify you of the payout error. If you need to change your PayPal email address or update it in your beehiiv account, follow the steps in this article. Please note that this may add some delays to the process.
Can I run paid traffic to my partner link?
No, while you're encouraged to promote your partner link, it is not permitted to run search engine ads on Bing and or Google. Other paid channels are completely fine.
For best practices, it’s important to adhere to these basic guidelines to avoid account issues or suspensions:
Do not run search engine ads on Bing and Google
It’s completely fine to run other social media ads
By adhering to these guidelines, you can effectively promote your partner link without risking any account issues.

After referring someone, when should I expect to see a payout for it?
Payouts won’t appear immediately after a referral due to the time needed for stat updates and the referral conversion process. Please allow up to 24 hours for stats to fully reflect in your dashboard.
Partner Dashboard: Stats are not updated in real-time. After referring someone, it may take some time for the stats to be updated and for the payout to reflect in your dashboard. Please be patient and allow time for the stats to refresh.
Referral conversion process: Remember that all plans come with a default 30-day trial period. Your referral needs to complete this trial and become a paying customer before you receive a payout. Once they've successfully converted, the payout will be processed accordingly and you will see this within your dashboard.
How do user upgrades or downgrades impact my commission?
Anytime a user that you referred upgrades or downgrades their plan, your commission will be adjusted accordingly.
For example, if a user that you referred upgrades their plan, your commission will increase. Conversely, if they downgrade their plan, your commission will decrease.
Your commission will simply be tracked and fluctuate up or down depending on if a referred user upgrades or downgrades their plan. Keep in mind that these adjustments will occur automatically based on the changes made to the user's unique paid subscription, ensuring your commissions accurately reflect the user's current plan.
What is the cookie duration?
Our cookies remain active for 60 days, one of the longest durations in the industry. This means that if a user clicks your link and signs up within that 60-day period, their sign-up is tracked through the cookie and attributed to your partner account. If they become a paying beehiiv customer during this time, it qualifies for a commission!
Commissions are paid on a first-click basis, meaning the first referral link clicked by the user is credited for the commission even if other partner links were clicked afterwards.
Can I sign up using my own affiliate link?
No, using your own affiliate link to sign up is not permitted. If you accidentally sign up with your own link, the commission will be revoked. This policy also applies to sub-publications under a parent publication — commissions are only granted for net new beehiiv accounts.
How does your tax complaince work?
In order to receive partner commissions through the beehiiv Partner Program, you must have a valid PayPal account. You’ll also need to complete all necessary tax forms within your PayPal account, as requirements vary by country.
For best practices on handling partner commissions, whether as an individual or business, we recommend consulting a tax professional.
