How to migrate from Campaign Monitor to beehiiv
In order to successfully migrate from Campaign Monitor to beehiiv, you’ll need to do 2 things:
- Migrate your subscribers
- Migrate your newsletter content
Follow the step-by-step instructions for each below.
Export your subscribers from Campaign Monitor
- Log into your Campaign Monitor account to start exporting subscribers.
- Navigate to the List and Subscribers tab.
- Click on the newsletter list that you want to export.
-
You’ll be brought to a page where you can view your selected list. In the top right corner, click on the three dots to reveal the dropdown menu, and then select the Export List option.
-
When initiating an export, a modal will pop up allowing you to choose the subscribers and all associated custom fields that you wish to export.
-
Review your selections and choose to export it as a CSV, then click on Export subscribers, and it will give you a notification that the export has started.
- When completed, be sure to save the CSV file to your device.
Import your subscribers to beehiiv
Before you import the exported Campaign Monitor CSV file into beehiiv, it’s best practice to look through your data and clean up any fields.
- Open the exported Campaign Monitor CSV file, and review the header (top row) information.
-
You’ll want to make sure the header fields use the same names as the custom fields that you’ll be using in beehiiv. Remove any data that you don’t plan to use.
-
Log into your beehiiv account. From the left hand panel, go to Settings > Publication, then click the Import Subscribers tab.
-
If you're importing more than 10 subscribers into beehiiv, you'll first need to complete Stripe Identity Verification to verify your identity. You can do so by going to Settings > Publications > Import Subscribers, and then click on the Start Stripe Identity Verification button. Then, after you have completed the Stripe verification process, click on the Start New Import button.
If you’d like to import more than 10,000 subscribers, you’ll need to complete the Stripe verification process as outlined above, then fill out a form to submit. You can access the form by going to Settings > Publication > Import Subscribers, then scroll down to Raise your import limit and click on Complete this form.
-
After clicking the Start New Import button, you’ll be prompted to choose an import method. Select Upload a CSV file, and then choose the CSV file that you want to import.
If you have a welcome email setup or an automation active in your beehiiv account, you can choose those options or leave them blank. You can also select or skip the email validation.
- Review your selections and then click on Import Subscribers.
- A confirmation message will pop up, and you’ll need to verify that the contacts in the list have knowingly opted into receiving emails from you. Click on Import to confirm.
-
Next, you’ll be able to start mapping out the fields from the CSV file as custom fields within beehiiv.
For additional guidance, you can watch the video in this article.
-
When done making your mapping selections, click on the Import button.
- Once completed, you’ll see how many subscribers were accepted and added to your publication.
-
You can then view the newly added subscribers by navigating to the Audience section of your account.
- To see the newly imported custom fields, click on an individual subscriber’s name and navigate to the Custom Fields section
Content Migration
At present, there is no tool or direct integration to import previous Campaign Monitor newsletter content into beehiiv. We’re actively working on enhancing this process to provide an easy-to-use tool for importing. Our KB documentation will also be updated once the tooling is developed.
Due to this, the current content migration options are to either manually copy/paste your posts directly from Campaign Monitor into new beehiiv posts, or reach out to our internal services partner (below).
Use a beehiiv services partner
You always have the option to access our internal services partner to help you and your team with any migration efforts to beehiiv.
