Types of Stripe accounts used in beehiiv
beehiiv partners with Stripe for identity verification and as our payment processor. Depending on your monetization and acquisition strategies, you may interact with Stripe in multiple ways on our platform.
Users on paid plans also have access to the beehiiv Wallet, which integrates with Stripe, to manage funds for Boosts and the Ad Network. This article explains the different types of Stripe accounts you may encounter while using beehiiv.
Stripe Identity Verification
To access certain features — such as raising your subscriber import limit, using the Boosts Marketplace (both Monetize and Grow Boosts), or generating API keys — you must first complete Stripe Identity Verification.
For a list of accepted verification documents by country, refer to Stripe’s documentation.
Stripe account for paid subscriptions
If you offer paid newsletter subscriptions through beehiiv, you must connect a personal Stripe account to process and receive payments.
If you don’t have a Stripe account, you can sign up here.
Stripe Express publication account
If you participate in the Boosts Marketplace or the Ad Network for monetization, you must create a Stripe Express account for each publication. Since each publication has its own dedicated Stripe Express account, you cannot use the same account across multiple publications.
The beehiiv Wallet is connected to your Stripe Express account, allowing you to:
- Deposit funds for Grow Boosts.
- Withdraw earnings from Monetize Boosts and the Ad Network.
Stripe Express workspace billing account
When you upgrade your beehiiv plan, payments are processed through a Stripe Express workspace billing account. This account is separate from your monetization revenue and is used exclusively for the direct payments for your beehiiv plan.
